The National Museum of Denmark Ny Vestergade 10 1471 Copenhagen
The legendary American guitarist Mike Stern took the jazz world by storm in 1981 as part of the Miles Davis comeback band, when he introduced a totally new and innovative style of guitar playing consisting of a unique blend of elements from bebop, blues and rock. The now 65 year old guitar icon - originally from Boston but a New Yorker since many decades - is considered one of his generation's greatest and most influential guitarists. It is unusual for a musician of such caliber to pay tribute to a fellow instrumentalist, but now for the first time ever we are privileged to get the chance to experience Mike Stern honour one of his greatest idols - Jimi Hendrix. The project's world premiere takes places at the National Museum in Denmark with a total of 4 concerts in 2 days, on Thursday and Friday March 8 & 9, 2018. The shows are presented by the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective and are as usual held at the National Museum of Denmark with shows at 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM. Joining Mike Stern on stage are Niels Lan Doky himself on piano, the French bass virtuoso Francois Moutin (last heard here with Debbie Sledge) and the spectacular American drummer David "Fingers" Haynes who has previously played with Prince.
