This event is open to the general public.
A rare and highly privileged opportunity to witness one of the greatest jazz/fusion guitar innovators of the past 40 years, Mike Stern, give a master class to top level guitar students from the leading jazz schools and conservatories in Denmark and Southern Sweden.
We are proud to offer this opportunity, as our music director, Niels Lan Doky, explains "Many years ago I saw Luciano Pavarotti deliver a master class in front of a live audience at Lincoln Center in New York, to the top eight opera students from the Julliard School of Music. The event was sold out and it was a mind-blowing experience to get a chance to probe the mind of such a creative genius while he shared his knowledge and expertise with the most astute of students." This experience has served as an inspiration for our new master class series at the National Museum in Copenhagen and we feel very honored that Mike Stern has agreed to be the first artist to give a master class here.
The legendary American guitarist Mike Stern took the jazz world by storm in 1981 as part of the Miles Davis comeback band, when he introduced a totally new and innovative style of guitar playing consisting of a unique blend of elements from bebop, blues and rock. The now 65 year old guitar icon - originally from Boston but a New Yorker since many decades - is widely recognized as one of his generation's greatest and most influential guitarists. Mike Stern is in Copenhagen for a multi-night concert residency with the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective March 8-11.
The selected participating guitarists are from the Rhythmic Music Conservatory (Copenhagen, Denmark), the Danish National Academy (Odense,Denmark), Skurups Folkhöjskola (Skurup, Sweden) and Fridhems Folkhöjskola (Svalöv, Sweden). Their names will be announced at the end of February on our facebook page.
The event will be held in the National Museum's Cinema Theatre (Biografsalen) from 15:00 to 17:00
Doors open 30 min before the master class begins.
