This workshop will focus on the type of leadership that is exercised at your restaurant. The purpose of the class is to facilitate reflection about the leadership style that you are currently using in your daily interactions, both in the front-of-house and back-of-house. Leadership is basically about how you organize and manage a social setting, and this is something that can be done in a many of ways. The workshop will briefly introduce some of the predominant conceptions of leadership, ranging from the classic figure of the master craftsman that lead by example, over the bureaucratic leader who delegates tasks to the modern conception of the leader as a coach that engages in dialog with his or her employees to improve their performance. Using an interactive format, the workshop will ask you to think about the type of leadership you exercise, but also ask you to think about alternative ways to manage and organize your restaurant. This will help you open up a discussion about how to improve your leadership.
