For this special weekend we have the pleasure of receiving this super old school Trattoria from Melito Irpino in Campania. I was introduced to this Trattoria by Daniela and Antonio from Cantina Giardino and fell instantly in love with the cosy family style, the quality of food and the all-around vibes. For me it defines how a restaurant experience should be: you are seated, and you’ll stay as long as an Italian wedding. You want a refill of pasta, you get it and if you order grappa or wines you are given the bottle on the table and you can help yourself. Generosity in the act of eating. This place is not well known in the traditional sense, but amongst the Italian food obsessed and artisanal wine growers, importers and enthusiasts it is a revered culinary institution, for mirroring the attention and respect for terroir they put in to wine, in food.
Managed by the Di Pietro family since 1934, it is an iconic symbol of the region, that creates the ultimate immersion in the gastronomic traditions of this corner of Irpinia. Crescenzo, in the dining room with his children Anita and Pasquale, will lead you by the hand through a culinary path full of suggestions and flavors, while Enzo di Pietro’s wife Teresa, with expert hands and imagination, prepares a series of honest and generous dishes. Homemade pasta and desserts, delicious biscuits served with a great coffee.
We will also be joined by a world famous and very special wine producer, Cantina Giardino.
