THE DOKY BROTHERS In mid 1990’s, pianist Niels Lan Doky and younger brother, bassist Chris Minh Doky collaborated as Doky Brothers on two albums released by heralded jazz label; Blue Note records. The albums were widely recognised as being instrumental in the second rise of jazz in Denmark and for bringing the genre to a whole new and young audience. Their popularity made the Doky Brothers a top selling live act in Denmark as well as recipients of multiple awards for album sales. The brothers disbanded in 1998 to explore new musical endeavours, establishing them as prolific individual solo artists in their own right. On their path, they were awarded the Ben Webster Award and in 2010 HM Queen Margrethe II knighted the brothers for their contributions to the arts. It is extremely rare and seldom that The Doky Brothers reunite on stage. This time is no exception as they will reunited in the purest and most intimate of musical settings; the acoustic duo.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
CHRIS MINH DOKY:
Chris Minh Doky’s rare ability to perform with ample portions of creativity and dynamism – either as a solo artist or sideman – consistently place him in the top-5 lists of reader polls around the world. Carrying on the Danish tradition of spotlighting the bass as the lead instrument, his distinctive styling of each note reflects his roots in American East Coast grooves seasoned with the lyrical traditions of Scandinavia. He earned the respect of the American jazz elite as the first-call bass player for icons such as Michael Brecker, David Sanborn, Mike Stern, Michele Camilo and Ryuichi Sakamoto. As a leader and recording artist, Chris Minh Doky has multiple gold and platinum awards, Grammy® nominations – and has even been knighted by HM Queen Margrethe II for his contributions to the arts. In a world obsessed with bottom lines, Chris Minh Doky has created bottom lines that have perked the ears of jazz fans around the world. For more than two decades he has been recognized as an original master of the upright bass. He continues the Danish bass heritage founded by Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen while exploring new musical paths to new levels. Whether caressing the strings in a seductive lull or taking his instrument to the edge, Chris Minh Doky is the bottom line.

NIELS LAN DOKY:
Jazz pianist and composer Niels Lan Doky has had one of the most extensive and unusual careers that the Danish music scene has ever seen. His professional career started already at age 13, and he was only 15 when began playing with American jazz legends Thad Jones and Ernie Wilkins. Today at the age of 53, he has released 39 album as a leader or co-leader and has collaborated with the greatest artists in jazz and won countless awards and accolades around the world. He was Knighted by Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark on her birthday in 2010 and has appeared on bestseller lists in Europe and Asia.
