AMANDA THOMSEN "TOUR OF COPENHAGEN" AT ANDERSEN & MAILLARD

COPENHAGEN Andersen & Maillard - bakery and coffee roastery

Thu 21 Jun 20:00 - Sun 24 Jun 20:00

The Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective are excited to introduce our latest concept, TOUR OF COPENHAGEN,  which is a pop-up tour of venues around town not previously associated with music, and with unusually modest ticket prices and intimate informal settings.

The first artist to agree to part take in this experiment is the amazing young Danish singer AMANDA THOMSEN and her incredible band featuring New York drummer VICTOR JONES (formerly with Stan Getz, Chaka Khan and other luminaries), Brazilian bassist ROMULO DUARTE (who has been heard in Copenhagen with our Camille Sledge sings Aretha Franklin project) and the great Swedish pianist CALLE BRICKMAN.

The first venue to agree to host our crazy idea is the fantastic new coffee roastery and bakery in Nørrebro called ANDERSEN & MAILLARD which just opened last February.
Andersen & Maillard serves high-end coffee and pastry but at normal accessible prices and is run by the award-winning Danish barista Hans Kristian Andersen and the celebrated American baker and former Noma pastry chef Milton Abel.  The pop-up concert run will last 4 days, Thursday through Sunday June 21-24, 2018.

ABOUT AMANDA THOMSEN:

The only twenty-year old Amanda Thomsen has been labelled "sensation" by the media in her native Denmark. Her idol and mentor Brian McKnight has called her "one of the best singers I have EVER heard." Her shows garner standing ovations night after night and she moves audiences to tears with her powerful yet sensitive voice.

Amanda Thomsen is a genuine human being and an authentic artist with deep integrity and an uncompromised devotion to her craft. In spite of her young age she has already performed hundreds of concerts, amassed an impressive amount of experience and reached a level of musicianship and vocal skill only attainable by the rarest of talents. She has incredible chops, technically flawless and with an intense emotional presence in any song that she sings.

Like many of her key influences - Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, Kirk Franklin, Alicia Keys and Brian McKnight - Amanda Thomsen grew up in church and with music as an omnipresent primary means of expression. As a result, she is at home in idioms like gospel, soul, pop and r&b. But extensive collaborations with jazz greats such as Niels Lan Doky, Dave Weckl and Jeff "Tain" Watts - and engagements at iconic jazz venues such as the Blue Note Tokyo and The Standard Jazz Club - also put her on the map in the jazz world. Furthermore, she has sung duets with Debbie Sledge (of Sister Sledge), guest appeared with Tim Ries and the Rolling Stones Project and done a co-billed concert with Brian McKnight during the Copenhagen Jazz Festival last year. She has been featured on major international TV news media such as BBC World and PBS NewsHour (USA) and has even received praise from Her Majesty The Queen of Denmark.
