The songs known as "Jazz Standards" are for the most part just pop songs from the 1930s and 1940s that jazz artists started to make their own versions of. Icons like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane and numerous others created their own jazz renditions of the most famous pop songs of their time, in order to offer audiences a radically different perspective on extremely familiar songs. And their jazz renditions ended up outliving the original versions by far and have been played and recorded endlessly by thousands of new jazz artists in the decades that followed. As a result, these songs are now widely identified as the classic jazz repertoire.
We are now going to take this concept into 2018 and gather a seasoned international all-star jazz trio with a spectacular cast of 6 amazing young singers from the USA, Denmark and France - to explore some og today's biggest pop songs in a jazz setting.
Come and join us on this adventurous journey and see what songs you think might have the potential to become tomorrow's new jazz standards.
Expect to hear songs by people like Beyonce, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Coldplay, Ariana Grande, Amy Winehouse, Justin Bieber, Adele and other contemporary pop artists - performed by:
